The Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library “providing open access to all the knowledge of the world,” explained why it accepts Bitcoin donations and holds cryptocurrency. Writes about this CoinDesk. In a recent blog post, the Internet Archive explains that it accepts cryptocurrencies, including ZCash, along with other currencies as it wants to be "a living example of an organization testing innovative Internet technology.".
“The Internet Archive explores how Bitcoin and other Internet innovations can benefit the nonprofit organization that we are. We want to see how the bitcoins we accept as donations can be used without selling them. We do this publicly so that others can learn from our example. And it's exciting. And this is interesting ".
As a non-profit organization, Internet Archive has been accepting bitcoins since 2012, and since 2013, its employees can receive salaries in bitcoins. The Internet Archive also encourages companies whose offices are located near them to switch to cryptocurrency, and sometimes they agree.
