Investing.com — Germany to create regional climate protection fund to bypass restrictive measures against gas pipeline construction «Nord Stream — 2», writes the German newspaper Bild, citing its own sources.
In particular, the authorities of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania decided to create a fund. The organization will define the pipeline «an important building block for environmental protection» in this region. The interlocutor of Bild clarifies that the foundation will organize a commercial enterprise to complete the pipeline..
In October 2020, the US Department of State expanded prohibitions against «Nord Stream — 2». All companies contributing to the construction of the pipeline, including suppliers of services, goods and financing, fell under their influence. Enterprises facing US sanctions will be able to bypass this threat by providing their services to the above fund, and not to the Russian side, sources explained to the German newspaper.

Previously operator «Nord Stream — 2» — Nord Stream 2 — announced that in early December 2020 it will unfreeze the construction of the gas pipeline after a year's pause. Pipe-laying is planned to be carried out using an anchored vessel in the exclusive economic zone of Germany.
On Tuesday, December 1, it became known that the supply vessel «Ivan Sidorenko», necessary for the completion of the gas pipeline, left the port of Kaliningrad and entered the Baltic Sea. Now at the Curonian Spit, in the roadstead, there is a pipelayer near each other «Academician Chersky», supply vessels «Umka» and «Finwhal», as well as a support vessel «Baltic explorer».
Fitch analysts do not rule out that «Nord Stream — 2» may be completed by the end of March 2021.
